Not even the thick fog in Taiwan could stop EJ Obiena from soaring, literally.
The World No. 4 pole vaulter kicked off the outdoor season at the Taiwan International Pole Vault Championships in Sun Moon Lake, Nantou, where he took a leap of faith in near-zero visibility and still cleared the bar with ease.
Braving strong winds and unpredictable conditions, EJ powered through to win gold, and later shared an inspiring message with his supporters about his experience.
“We can’t always have sunny skies and perfect weather conditions. We have to persevere through all kinds of adversity,” said the two-time Olympian with a video of his successful clearing of 5.50 meters on his third attempt.
