The world can feel cruel sometimes but there are plenty of random acts of kindness in the streets if one just pauses and takes a closer look. And often they come from unlikely sources.
A financial advisor experienced this firsthand on a Tuesday night while cruising home on his motorcycle in Quezon City.
In a Facebook post, Jacklord Esguerra recounted an inspiring encounter with a little girl named Princess selling sampaguita flowers at a stoplight along Boni Serrano Avenue. The girl approached him offering her wares but he politely declined, explaining that he didn’t have any cash on him.
But just before the light turned green, the little girl insisted on placing the sampaguita flowers on his motorbike even as he repeatedly declined, saying he had no money.
“Isang bomba na lang po, Kuya,” she said, a term common among motorcyclists referring to a technique to match the engine speed with rear wheel speed.
Esguerra chuckled at her use of the term and obliged to the kid’s request. In the few seconds before the light changed, he told her he still couldn’t pay for the flowers and that was when her genuine smile caught his attention.
“Sabi niya, ‘Okay lang po kuya! Mag-iingat po kay pag-uwi. Bigay ko na po ‘yan,” he related. He thanked her and promised to return her kindness, driving home with a lesson in his heart and a smile on his face.
“Moral: walang bayad ang maging mabuti. Pero may sukli! Nung nagda-drive ako, I promised to myself na babalik ako after ng work ko this week at babawi ako kay Princess,” he shared, adding that it was Princess who gave him his first flower.
His story warmed the hearts of many netizens who chanced upon his post. “Amen, kindness is everywhere,” commented Liza Villanueva.
Reizel Dimaculangan also said, “Isang patunay na hindi kailangan na maging mayaman para makapagbigay sa kapwa.”
As he prepares to return to the spot where the heartwarming encounter took place, many eagerly await his next update and hope to contribute to Princess’ welfare.
Some individuals reached out to Esguerra to offer assistance to Princess, prompting him to suggest sending help directly to her.
“Sa mga gustong mag-abot ng tulong kay Princess, hindi niyo na po sakin kailangan padaanin ang gifts or monetary help ninyo. I-diretso natin sa kanila. Will ask their details pagbalik ko,” he assured.
