Vlogger Kulas hyped over bamboo desks that switch to emergency beds: A practical, thoughtful solution

Convertible chairs made from bamboo are very useful in disasters, says vlogger Kyle Jennermann.

Popular vlogger Becoming Filipino aka Kyle Jennermann or Kulas shared his excitement about a new innovation from the Department of Science and Technology’s Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI).

The Silyang Pinoy are versatile desks made from sustainable engineered bamboo, which not only serve as functional classroom furniture but can also be converted into beds during emergencies.

In addition to their role as traditional desks, these pieces of furniture can be transformed into makeshift beds during times of disaster, making them ideal for schools that often serve as evacuation centers in the wake of calamities.

Made using engineered bamboo, the desks are designed to easily shift into beds during times of calamity. Having personally witnessed schools in many parts of the country becoming evacuation/relief centers… these make sense,” Kulas said in his post.

The natural beauty of bamboo also stood out to him.

“And not only that, I feel like as a student, they give a nice vibe for learning. Bamboo just feels more refreshing in my opinion,” he said.
