A few days after she went viral for unexpectedly crawling out of a drainage hole like a horror movie character in Barangay Bel-Air in Makati City, “Rose” is now getting legit support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Rose received Php80,000 in livelihood assistance to kickstart her longtime dream of opening her own sari-sari store. Before that, she was taken to the agency’s Pag-abot Processing Center in Pasay City for proper assessment and support.
“The DSWD will extend livelihood grants to Rose to take her away from the dangers of the streets, as well as her common-law partner who works as a barker,” said DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian.

In a conversation with Gatchalian, Rose shared that she collects recyclable garbage and sells them to make a living, and that she ended up inside the drainage while retrieving a small blade cutter she accidentally dropped.
