The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila is certainly world-class. It has officially landed in the Top 500 Best Global Universities in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, securing the #479 spot worldwide.
Within Asia, UP Manila placed #114, making it the only Philippine university to break into the global top 500 for 2024-2025.
In a statement, UP Manila Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Bernadette Heizel Reyes emphasized that the ranking reflects UP Manila’s commitment to international standards.
“This is the most facilitative way for us to ensure that all of our academic offerings are at par with international standards, are resonant with the needs of the country, are relevant to our stakeholders, and are prepared in a way that best prepares our students to be citizens of the future,” she said.
Meanwhile, UP Manila Chancellor Michael Tee said he hopes the recognition will inspire other state universities to aim for the top.
“While we celebrate this honor–it informs us that, as the national university, we need to partner with more state universities and colleges so that within the next 10 years, we may see UP Manila and other SUCs in the top 500 universities,” he said.
The rankings, covering 2,250 universities across 104 countries, assess academic research performance and global reputation using 13 key indicators, including publications, citations, and international collaborations.
