Nagbukas nitong Pebrero 2 ang kauna-unahang Wetland Museum sa bansa na matatagpuan sa Wetland Centre Complex sa Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP). Nataon din ang pagbukas ng nasabing museum sa World Wetlands Day (WWD) 2024.
Ano nga ba ang kahalagahan ng wetland o basang lupa? Ayon sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources, nagsisilbi itong “kidneys of the Earth” at nagsisilbing proteksyon sa kalikasan.
“They provide food, and freshwater and act as a natural defense against flooding. As the kidneys of the earth, they filter water through their vegetation and substrates,” dagdag pa ng DENR.
Ayon sa ulat ng Philippine Information Agency, nasa inisyal na yugto pa lamang ang Wetland Museum pero mararanasan na ng mga bibisita dito ang interactive displays, educational exhibits, at captivating installations na nagpapakita ng kahalagahan ng wetland environments.
” It sheds light on the threats experienced by wetlands like habitat loss and pollution, encouraging community engagement in protecting these precious areas,” ayon pa sa ulat.
Sinabi naman ni Senator Cynthia Villar, sa pagbubukas ng museum, importante ang wetland para sa mga susunod na henerasyon.
“We actively protect and strongly defend the breadth and depth of our territories to ensure that the future generation of Filipinos will still have the opportunity to take pride and find joy in our country’s rich biodiversity,” ayon sa pahayag ni Villar na siya ring chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources.
Libre ang pagpasyal sa Wetland Museum para sa lahat. Bukas ito mula 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
