TikToker discovers grandma’s dress designs from the 1940s and makes it her mission to bring them to life

A TikTok creator has made it her life’s mission to transform the dress designs her grandmother sketched in the 1940s into real-life dresses.

A TikToker is transforming her grandmother’s old designs into reality after she finds a stack of them hidden in the family home. Her journey became viral, and for good reason. Her grandmother sketched the designs while she was a teen in the 1940s and they are now coming to life.

According to 27-year-old Julia, she originally shared the designs on TikTok and she was inspired by the amount of encouragement she received from well-meaning netizens.

“Everyone in the comments was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you have to make these come to life.’ And I had no idea how to sew. So I started watching YouTube tutorials and my in-laws actually bought me a sewing machine,” she said.

She added that it took a while before she finally gained enough confidence to transform the sketches into dresses but once she showed her grandmother what became of her project, she knew that she had to keep going.

Most of her videos show her modeling the clothes for her grandmother but she never shows her face to protect her from nasty comments. It’s enough that Julia sees her reaction in witnessing her beautiful designs come to life.

Netizens were touched by her gesture and said she should continue what she is doing:

“Stunning! Wish we still dressed this way! My mom would tell me that when we dressed better, we act better.”

“What an inspiring story and kudos to her granddaughter for bringing her grandmother’s dreams to life!!!”

“This is so wonderful! So many women put their dreams on hold and hid their talents back then, and do today! So happy to hear she is drawing again! Give her a hug from me! Congratulations!”
