‘The Lord of the Rings’ anime gets a release date for December

“The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim” anime will be released this December.

Japanese animator and director Kenji Kamiyama and “Lord of the Rings” actor Andy Serkis on Tuesday, as they presented a 20-minute preview of the upcoming anime feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” at the Annecy Film Festival in France.

“The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” will be produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Animation, and it will explore the conflict between Rohan and the Dunlendings, focusing on Helm Hammerhand’s daughter, Hèra, a character not named in Tolkien’s original work.

Voiced by Gaia Wise, Hèra is the first female lead in a Lord of the Rings adaptation, reported Deadline.

LOTR Director Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will also be involved in the project as executive producers. Currently in production at Tokyo-based Sola Entertainment, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” will be released worldwide by Warner Bros on December 13, 2024.
