Four years ago, June Mar Fajardo was on top of the world as the reigning six-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). But a catastrophic fracture on his right tibia threatened to end it all.
Fast forward to 2023, and “The Kraken” has managed to regain his throne in Philippine basketball as he was named the PBA MVP for a personal record-extending seventh time.
The milestone was not only significant for the playing career of the 6-foot-10 behemoth but also a personal one as it capped his tedious struggle to make a comeback.
During his speech, June Mar revealed his doubts about returning after his severe leg injury: “Nag start nung na injure ako, nabali yung tibia ko… Nag-cross talaga sa isip ko na yun na baka yun na ang end ng career ko kasi yung injury ko malala talaga,” he said.

But with the unwavering support from doctors, physical therapists, and the entire San Miguel management, along with his determination, June Mar made the impossible happen and rose from his fall.
“He expressed gratitude, saying, “Pero thankful ako kay Dr Raul Canlas at lahat ng doctors na nagtulong tulong para ikabit ang tibia ko. Thankful ako sa kanilang lahat. Sa mga PTs ng team at PTs ko, sila nagtulong tulong para makabalik ako sa game. Boss Alfrancis (Chua), Boss RSA (Ramon S. Ang), sa San Miguel management.”
“Salamat dahil nung injured ako, chincheck nila ako lagi kung okay ako, ano kailangan ko,” he added.
Now, “The Kraken” is back in his rightful place, proving that with determination and a strong support system, one can conquer any challenge.
