Swipe left on validation: Why Father Jerry Orbos says other’s perception shouldn’t define you

Renowned priest Fr. Jerry Orbos gives it straight up on how one can measure his self-worth.

In the digital era where likes, hearts, followers, and comments seem to be the currency of self-worth, renowned priest Fr. Jerry Orbos dropped some wise words for the youth, reminding them that self-value is an inside job.

“Ang pananaw ng mga tao sayo, how people see you, don’t make that your basis of self-worth. Sabi ganito, sabi ganyan. Wag ka maniwala sa ganyan. That’s not the basis of who you are,” said Orbos in his homily last November 5.

He went on to say, “Ang dami dyan bobolahin ka, madami naman iba-bash ka. Pag yun ang focus mo, nakikinig ka sa perception ng iba, that’s not the basis of who you are. That’s not the basis of your self-worth, on what people think or say.”

Instead, the real measure of your true worth is in how you view yourself and how God sees you, the priest emphasized.

“I know myself. I know I am not that good, but I am not that bad either. And that’s fine with me. Hindi ako ganun kabait, pero hindi ako ganun kasama. If you can accept that, okay na yan. You know yourself,” he said.

“And the real basis, what does God say about you. What does God think about you. Yun ang tunay na basis. God knows. That is your real self-worth,” he added.
