Eighteen-year-old Titus Santucci made history after he became the first Filipino-American to join the USA Jr. National Surf Team.
The teenager has dedicated half of his life to surfing and competing in various events across America. His adventure recently reached a thrilling milestone when he got the long-awaited call to join the US junior team.
In an Instagram post, Titus shared his excitement about achieving a goal he’s set his sights on since he first rode the waves and caught the surf bug.
“It’s been a goal of mine to qualify for the USA Jr. National Surf Team and I am super stoked to be representing and competing for the USA in Brazil next month,” said Santucci.
Of course, it’s no surprise that Titus received an outpouring of support, including a shoutout from his Filipino mom, Irene Navarro.
“Oh my gosh, I am so proud! To actually see his hard work pay off is just incredible! Filipinos stick like rice and you know, they support each other, and once one does good we’re all super stoked,” Irene told CBS 8.
Santucci and the rest of the U.S. Jr. National Surf Team are set to compete in the International Surfing Association’s 2023 World Junior Surfing Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil set for this November.
But fellow Pinoys can be part of his incredible journey. To support Titus in proudly representing the US and the Philippines, they’re raising funds for their trip.
“Unlike many other countries, our national team receives no funding from our government, so we are raising money to support our trip in hopes of bringing home the gold,” said Titus.
