Pasok sa tentative list ng World Heritage List ang sugar heritage trail ng Panay at Negros Islands sa United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Philippines.
Sa sugar heritage trails na ito, masasaksihan ang mga sugar farms at mills, hacienda houses, food-related services at experiences na naglalarawan sa yaman ng kasaysayan ng industry ng asukal sa lugar.
“The Sugar Cultural Landscape of Negros and Panay Island showcases the legacy of the sugar industry brought by the industrialization of sugar production in the late 18th century, such as mills, factories, plantations, buildings, and mansions that reflect the social and economic dynamics of the late Spanish-colonial and American-colonial eras,” ayon sa website ng UNESCO World Heritage Convention.
Naka-lineup ang entry na may title na “The Sugar Cultural Landscape of Negros and Panay Islands” sa cultural category na may “seven areas and properties as components,” kabilang ang Calle Real sa Iloilo City, ang historic center ng Silay City, Hawaiian-Philippine Company, Victorias Milling Company, Hacienda Santa Rosalia, Balay ni Tana Dicang, at Aniceto Lacson Mansion.
Ayon sa ulat ng Philippine News Agency, kailangan masumite ang mga katibayan at dokumento para patunayan ang “outstanding universal value” ng nasabing entry. Magaganap sa Setyembre 14 ang deliberasyon.
