Looks like “KPop Demon Hunters” is still very much in its winning era.
The Netflix animated hit walked away with two major wins at the Critics Choice Awards, taking home Best Animated Feature and Best Song, a double victory that had fans celebrating online.
Held in Santa Monica, California, the 31st Critics Choice Awards saw “KPop Demon Hunters” outpace heavy hitters from legacy studios, including Disney’s “Zootopia 2” and Pixar’s “Elio,” plus fellow nominees “In Your Dreams” and “Arco.”
The film, directed by Korean-Canadian filmmaker Maggie Kang, also picked up a second trophy for Best Song thanks to “Golden,” which has become one of the movie’s most-talked about tracks.
Singer-songwriter EJAE, who performed and co-wrote the song, accepted the award and shared how personal the track was for her.
“When writing the song, I found myself living vicariously through my character Rumi,” she was quoted as saying.
She also explained that “Golden” was meant to capture hope, resilience, and the belief that dreams are still within reach.
“The song needed to be an expression of hope to convince herself that she could rise and reach for her dreams. In many ways, it did the same for me. But most importantly for it to be giving hope to so many people around the world is truly the greatest honor,” she added.
