Basketball might be the king of sports in the Philippines, but according to veteran sports show host Marc Nelson, gymnastics is the real MVP when it comes to building a strong athletic career.
In a recent Instagram post, Marc shared how his 15-year stint as a sports show host opened his eyes to the importance of gymnastics as the ultimate foundation sport.
“Gymnastics is the best base sport to train your strength, flexibility, balance, and spatial awareness that will help you in every other sport you do afterwards,” he wrote.
“15 years of doing a sports show trying different activities every week proved that to me over and over again,” he added.
Marc also hopes that Carlos Yulo’s recent twin gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics will inspire more support for gymnastics in the country, with the government investing in training facilities for gymnasts.
“I have always believed that Filipinos would make excellent gymnasts if only they were given the exposure, opportunity, and training. Hopefully, the incredible performance of Carlos Yulo will inspire a lot of kids to pick up the sport,” he said.
“Thank you Caloy for bringing back gold as well as a spotlight on this sport,” he added.
Carlos Yulo made history by winning gold in both the floor exercise and vault events at the 2024 Olympics.
