San Miguel Corp. (SMC) just got a major shoutout on the international stage, snagging a spot in the 25 Steward Leadership Excellence awards with its first-of-its-kind “Saribuhay sa Dampalit” program in Bulacan.
SMC, a leader in sustainability, earned this nod from the Stewardship Asia Centre for its environmental commitment across the Asia-Pacific region. It joined an elite list of organizations that champion eco-friendly initiatives at a special ceremony in Singapore.
“Saribuhay sa Dampalit” is a one-of-a-kind biodiversity site that spans 47 hectares in Barangay Pamarawan in Malolos, Bulacan, and blends sustainable infrastructure with critical habitat conservation, making it a new standard for sustainable infrastructure development.
“We are honored to receive this recognition for our efforts in creating functional habitats for migratory shorebirds,” said San Miguel Aerocity Inc. (SMAI) Project Director Cecile Ang in a statement on the SMC website.
“This award highlights San Miguel’s unwavering commitment to biodiversity protection while advancing critical infrastructure for the Philippines,” she added.
As part of SMC’s “No Net Loss” and “Net Gain” goals in biodiversity, the site offers a crucial stopover for migratory birds along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. It also supports local communities with jobs and nature-based flood solutions.
“This program sets a new benchmark for responsible infrastructure development…It proves that progress and environmental stewardship can go hand-in-hand,” added Ang.
