There’s so much more to love about TJ than being the first-ever Pinoy muppet on “Sesame Street.” The beloved children’s TV show just dropped more heartwarming deets about TJ, who made his debut in May 2023 on Episode 5428.
In a recent Facebook post, “Sesame Street” gave fans another look at TJ’s life. Turns out, he’s a second-gen Filipino-American who’s a “proud kuya” to his baby sister. TJ is also learning Tagalog from his grandparents and feels super accomplished when he uses it with visiting relatives from California, where his parents are from.
“He loves it when they all get together so he can help his mom make lumpia with all the veggies he picked, and so he can play basketball and have a dance-off with his cousins,” added Sesame Street.
Pinoy netizens gushed over TJ’s spotlight moment in the comments section:
“I was reading the description aloud to my younger son, and my older son said, “wait, are you talking about me? That’s like me!” I’m so excited for this representation!”
“Welcome TJ! Can’t wait to see you and your family! Way-to-Go Sesame Street !!”
“Glad to see Pinoy culture get a moment to shine here on American television. Nice work from the sesame street crew as always.”
“Thank you ❤️ “TJ” is my 14 year old 2nd generation Filipino American son. We live in South Carolina and it’s not always easy being ‘different’ in the South.”
“Love! Representation for all kids, matters.”
