Tiwi, Albay is buzzing with excitement as a mother and son from the town pulled off a double win—nailing the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) they took together in September this year.
What made Fe Advincula and son, Mark Jason’s success even sweeter was the hard work they had to put in as they both decided to forgo the traditional route of enrolling in a review center, opting instead to do self-study to save money.
“Self-review is the key! Not all are given a chance to enroll at a review center. Great advantage if you are already in the field of teaching. You must know yourself, believe in what you can do and believe in the power of prayers,” said Fe in a Bicol.ph report.
Both armed with degrees in Secondary Education majoring in science, this dynamic mother-son duo had to juggle work and rigorous exam preparation.
Fe, who earned her degree last year at the age of 50, teaches at Our Lady of Salvation College three times a week. She also said that her age did not limit her from pursuing her dreams for herself and her seven children.
Meanwhile, Jason, who works daily during the day, dedicated his nights to reviewing for the exam.
“Ang diskarte ko po sa pagreview, morning nagwowork ako at sa gabi nagrereview. Tamang browse lang po sa reviewer na dala ko at nanonood ng live lectures and drills sa FB,” Jason was quoted as saying.
Fe and Jason filed their application for the licensure exam together and were seated next to each other during the exam. While they felt anxious waiting for the results, they were also confident that they would both nail it—and they did!
“Hindi hadlang ang hirap sa buhay para makamit ang mga mithiin natin sa buhay. Sabi nga, kung may pangarap ka, dapat may goal ka rin,” said Jason.
As they celebrate their double triumph, Jason offered valuable advice for future LEPT takers: “Tanungin mo sa sarili mo kung para saan ba yang ginagawa mo. Pag may goal ka na gusto matumbok, may struggle and hardship man ang dumating, kakayanin mo kasi gusto mo ma-achieve ang goal mo,” he said.
“Kung may pangarap ka, dapat sabayan din ng gawa, huwag puro pangarap lang,” he added.
