Korean oppa Ahn Hyo-seop swept “Kpop Demon Hunters” fandom off their feet with a surprise stripped-down cover of “Free,” one of the most emotional tracks from the hit Netflix animated film.
He shared a clip on Instagram where he sang the first two minutes of the track, channeling full Saja Boy energy. With the soft vocals, the vibe, and emotion, fans were left in awe and immediately started begging for the full version.
ICYMI, Ahn Hyo-seop voiced Jinu, the mysterious leader of the demonic idol group Saja Boys. “KPop Demon Hunters” marked his first-ever voice acting gig, with Jinu’s singing parts originally performed by South Korean singer-composer Andrew Choi.
But after hearing the actor’s take, many fans are in full agreement that he could have easily handled both:
“Dapat talaga ikaw na lang din ang singing voice eh 😍❤️”
“Such an amazing cover version, Jinu 😍😍 LOVE IT”
“Wait!! What if we have a version with you and @arden_cho ??? 🤩🤩🤩 This was beautiful!! 🩵🩵🩵”
“You should also covers all the singing part @imhyoseop”
“They should’ve had you sing alllll your songs!!!!!!!!”
While many seemed stunned about Ahn Hyo-seop’s vocals, it shouldn’t even be a surprise. Long before the doctor roles and romantic leads, he was actually a K-pop trainee for three years under JYP Entertainment and even shared a dorm with future GoT7 members.
He moved back to South Korea at 17 after growing up in Canada (which explains his fluency in English), but later stepped away from the idol trainee life when singing and dancing started to feel more like a job than a hobby he loves and enjoys.
