Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) just took its green initiatives up a notch by rolling out a massive tree-planting program in a 50-hectare adopted area in Siniloan, Laguna.
Recently, TMP gathered 56 eco-warrior volunteers to plant 1,000 native tree seedlings in Barangay Magsaysay, part of the stunning Sierra Madre Mountain range.
These volunteers weren’t just from TMP’s workforce but also from GT Capital Holdings, Inc., the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office Sta. Cruz Laguna, and the People’s Organization of Siniloan.
This lush upland area is a crucial ecosystem that’s home to the Philippines’ oldest forests and tons of unique plants and animals. By planting these trees, TMP aims to boost local livelihoods, enhance biodiversity, and develop future carbon sinks.
The firm’s initiative is part of the DENR’s National Greening Program, a huge forest rehabilitation program that tackles poverty, food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate change.
“Through the ‘All TOYOTA Green Wave Project,’ which started globally in 2015, we connect TOYOTA Network stakeholders with the environment to raise consciousness about climate change and mobilize volunteers for nature and biodiversity conservation,” according to TMP President Masando Hashimoto.
“I am happy to have personally witnessed this action in a local site that is part of the 108-hectare National Greening Program area adopted by TMP,” he added in a Facebook post.
TMP’s project is set to run for five years, during which they’ll provide financial compensation to the People’s Organization of Siniloan for every hectare maintained.
