Pride comes to Manila! Amsterdam Rainbow Dress makes its Southeast Asian debut with PH as first stop

The iconic Amsterdam Rainbow Dress makes its Southeast Asian debut in the Philippines.

The iconic Amsterdam Rainbow Dress just landed in Southeast Asia and has chosen the Philippines as its first stop.

In a post on X, LGBTQIA+ advocacy group Babaylanes, Inc. announced that the dress’ visit earlier this week marked the first time this powerful symbol of pride and resilience has been showcased in the region.

“This exhibition, a first in Southeast Asia, is a display of international solidarity and support for the fight for equality and non-discrimination in the Philippines,” said Babaylanes.

Pride PH, another leading LGBTQIA+ organization and key supporter of the dress’ visit, echoed this enthusiasm.

“We are excited to present the first showcase of the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress in Southeast Asia. This historic dress serves as a powerful reminder of hope for an equal and equitable world,” said Pride PH.

The dress was put on public display at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City from June 25 to 26.

The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress, considered a global symbol of LGBTQIA+ rights and resilience, is made up of flags from countries where being a member of LGBTQIA+ community is still punishable by law, including eight countries where homosexual acts can result in the death penalty.

The presence of the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress is among the highlights of the celebration of Pride Month 2024 in the Philippines.
