Before his death, Pope Francis made one final power move: he donated one of his popemobiles to be turned into a mobile clinic to help children in war-torn Gaza.
Now called the “Vehicle of Hope,” the former popemobile carries vaccines, oxygen, diagnostic kits, and essential medicine for kids who have no access to healthcare, reported the Catholic News Agency.
Staffed by trained medical teams from Caritas Jerusalem, the clinic is set to reach isolated areas once humanitarian access is granted, offering urgent help to displaced and malnourished children.
The project was one of the final missions Pope Francis personally entrusted to Caritas during his last months, showing his continued care for the most vulnerable, according to the report.
Organizers said that more than just a clinic on wheels, it’s also a message that Gaza’s children have not been forgotten.
“This is a concrete, lifesaving intervention at a time when the health system in Gaza has virtually collapsed,” it quoted Peter Brune, secretary-general of Caritas Sweden, as saying.
Just a day before his passing, the Pope used the same vehicle to bless sick children on St. Peter’s Square, a final gesture that now lives on through every life this clinic will reach.
