In an exhilarating victory, the University of the Philippines-College of Law (UP Law) has secured the prestigious title of World Champions at the 2024 Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition.
After nearly three decades, UP Law has once again made history, showcasing its legal brilliance on the global stage.
Hosted recently at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Washington, DC., this year’s Jessup competition drew an impressive 642 teams from over 100 jurisdictions, all vying for the top spot. UP Law emerged triumphant, solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in moot court competitions worldwide.
“This historic win not only solidifies UP Law’s position as a leading institution in moot court competitions globally but also shines a spotlight on the excellence of Philippine law students and the broader Asian legal community,” said UP Law.
“This remarkable victory comes nearly three decades after their last triumph in the same competition, reaffirming UP Law’s unparalleled excellence on the global stage,” it added.
The Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition is hailed as the oldest, largest, and most esteemed moot competition worldwide, attracting participants from prestigious law schools across the globe.
The competition challenges students to engage in simulated court proceedings, tackling complex legal issues with skill and precision. It was back in 1995 when UP Law last won the world title in the Moot Court Competition.
Leading UP Law’s charge to victory was its Jessup Team, comprised of Mary Regine Dadole, Pauline De Leon, Pauline Samantha Sagayo, Chinzen Viernes, and Ignacio Lorenzo Villareal, with Professor Marianne Vitug serving as coach and Professor Rommel Casis as faculty advisor.
