PH tennis enters its main-character era as the Philippine Women’s Open hits the WTA calendar

The Philippine Women’s Open has secured a WTA spot, bringing a fresh boost to Pinoy tennis.

Pinoy tennis just unlocked a fresh flex with the Philippine Women’s Open finally landing on the official WTA calendar.

The 125-tier tournament, set for January 26 to 31, 2026, is now up on the WTA website, setting the stage for a rare home court spotlight for Philippine tennis.

Pinay tennis star Alex Eala could easily be the face of this moment, but her spot isn’t confirmed yet since the tournament overlaps with the Australian Open, where she is set for her big debut.

A quick finish in Melbourne could open up a Manila storyline, but everything is still up in the air.

A total of 32 players will battle it out in the singles draw, with 16 pairs joining the doubles field. For now, the player list on the WTA site remains blank, adding a bit of suspense as Philippine tennis steps into this new global space.
