A four-year-old cat just proved that pets are indeed angels in disguise.
Neko earned online praise after saving his family from the rising floodwaters in Talisay, Cebu during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino early this month.
In a Facebook post, Eva Cuizon, a fashion designer, recounted how their feline companion pulled off a clever move to wake up her brother, David Paul, who was resting on the first floor around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, thinking the worst of the typhoon had already passed.
“Around 6 a.m., my brother who was sleeping on the first floor, woke up to a loud bang,” said Eva. When David checked, Neko was on the dining table and had pushed a laptop to the ground.
According to Eva, the cat had been trying to wake David up but nothing worked, so the smart cat dropped the laptop, and it surely got his brother’s attention. As soon as David stood, he realized the water had already entered the house and was already ankle-deep.
“Neko had woken him to warn the family that the flood was coming,” she said.
David and his family tried to move what they could to the second floor, but with the flood rising fast, they chose to evacuate to a nearby three-story home for safety.
“My family evacuated with Neko together with our 2 other pets. ✨️ That’s how Neko saved my family, just one day after celebrating his anniversary with the Aguspina fam,” she said.
Neko’s story quickly gained attention online as netizens celebrated the cat’s quick instincts, with some saying he deserves a feast or a whole week of treats for saving the entire household.
