PBA All-Star Raymond Almazan’s EDSA gaffe: A lesson in humility and traffic etiquette

PBA All-Star Raymond Almazan drops a lesson to all motorists in light of his viral bus lane “pit stop.”

PBA All-Star Raymond Almazan is serving up a major lesson after his viral pit stop on the EDSA bus lane last April 15.

In a media statement following his apology to the Department of Transportation, the Meralco Bolts center urged the public, especially motorists, to heed his experience and play by the rules of the road to avoid unnecessary headaches.

“Let’s just follow the rules so walang problema. Kung nag follow ako sa rules e di hindi sana ako nagka ganito, may penalty pa,” said Raymond.

He also didn’t shy away from admitting his mistake, owning up to it without hesitation.

“Alam naman natin na policy siya dito sa Metro Manila, especially nilalabas naman sa TV na bawal dumaan sa bus lane. So talagang I admit talaga na mali ako doon. Dapat hindi talaga pamarisan,” he said.

Last week, Almazan was flagged down by traffic enforcers for using the EDSA Busway on board an unauthorized vehicle.

This special EDSA lane is reserved exclusively for authorized buses and vehicles of top government officials.

The incident led to Raymond’s suspension for one game with the Meralco Bolts in the Philippine Basketball Association. Not only that, but unauthorized use of the EDSA Busway also carries a Php5,000 fine for first-time offenders.
