Teen golf sensation David Charles Serdenia’s future just got a major upgrade: no more tiring commutes to get to his competitions or borrowing money to cover tournament fees because telco giant Globe has officially embraced him into its fold to make his dreams a reality.
“We are excited to play a role in his journey towards success and eagerly anticipate watching him grow not only as a golfer but also as a source of inspiration for many,” said Ernest Cu, Globe Group President and CEO, in a statement.
Charles, the son of a part-time caddie at the Philippine Navy, is known in the amateur circuit as that talented young golfer who would take public transport, with heavy equipment in tow, to compete.
His star shined extra when he won in the junior division of the National Golf Association of the Philippines-Beverly Place Open in Mexico, Pampanga in September, showcasing his extraordinary skills and dedication.
Despite financial challenges, the self-taught athlete fell in love with the sport at seven but numerous obstacles, especially financial constraints, forced him to put his golfing dreams on hold for over two years.
“During the pandemic, while working as a caddie, I saw him practicing. Every day, rain or shine, he was there on the putting green, pitching. I told myself my son truly wanted to be a golfer. I let him be,” said his mom, Ana Maria.

Charles is not oblivious to his mom’s sacrifices just so he can pursue his passion. “So I told myself to practice well to help my mom,” he said.
But thanks to the supportive golf community, Charles has been sustained by their generosity, receiving financial assistance and equipment, including clubs, bags, shirts, and shoes.
When Globe’s CEO, Cu stumbled upon his inspiring story, the company stepped in to provide comprehensive support to hone his skills and technique further and fuel his golfing journey. The young golfer dreams of joining the national team and playing for the Philippines on the global stage.
Cu said the company’s support will not only let Charles compete in upcoming tournaments but also assist in his long-term goal of achieving top-level proficiency in golf.
