Filipino shoppers aren’t just adding to cart mindlessly and easily giving in to “budol.”
In the lead-up to its upcoming 9.9 Super Day Sale this September, the e-commerce platform Shopee revealed that Filipino consumers have become seriously picky with their online carts, mostly purchasing products that have good reviews.
“They’re [smarter] now than before. Hindi na sila nahuhulog masyado sa scams, so they read reviews and they’re more meticulous on what they buy,” said Shopee head for public affairs Erin Tagudin in a Philippine News Agency report.
Whether it’s a budget steal or splurge-worthy item, quality is now foremost for Pinoy consumers, said Tagudin.
“What they usually do and this is what we’ve seen in our focus review group studies is that they look at reviews closely. And, if the reviews are good and have good stars that’s what they buy,” she added.
The e-commerce boom isn’t slowing down anytime soon, with the sector contributing at least 14 percent to the country’s PHP2.05 trillion digital economy in 2023, according to recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Shopee Philippines head Vincent Lee also dropped some impressive stats from market research and data analysis firm Statista: the Philippines has become the second fastest-growing retail e-commerce with a 24.1 percent sales spike this year.
