Morisette Amon is on a roll. Fresh from her Best Actress win at the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) in Hollywood, the singer-actress just scored another major nod, this tieme at the 58th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.
She’s officially nominated for Best Actress for her breakout role as Miss Alma Taldo in “Song of the Fireflies,” making her the only Filipina on the list. Also in the running are Suzana Piers from Brazil and Devin Sidell from the U.S.
WorldFest made the announcement on Instagram, saying the nominated performances “moved us, inspired us, and reminded us why storytelling matters.”
In her film debut, which is based on a true story, Morisette plays a small-town teacher from Bohol who leads the Loboc Children’s Choir to global recognition, all while facing personal and community struggles. The film also stars Rachel Alejandro, Krystal Brimner, and Noel Comia Jr.
The role already earned her Best Actress at MIFF.
“Song of the Fireflies” will be screened at the festival on May 1, with winners announced the next day, May 2.
