Morgan, the Pinoy Hachiko, goes through epic glow-up at shelter and a new home is coming soon

The loyal dog is slowly recovering after NGO rescue from a hospital where he waited for his owner at the hospital’s morgue for a year.

A year ago, a dog named Morgan found himself at the Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital in Caloocan City, missing his owner who had tragically succumbed to COVID-19.

Instead of giving up, Morgan set up camp right in front of the hospital morgue, as if waiting for his beloved human to return.

Surviving through the communal care of kind-hearted healthcare workers, vigilant security guards, students, and even hospital visitors, Morgan’s story touched the hearts of everyone who crossed his path.

Just this month, the non-government organization Animal Kingdom Foundation (AFK) came to the rescue and brought Morgan to their animal shelter in Capas, Tarlac to be rehabilitated.

AKF Director Atty. Heidi Caguioa shared that “Morgan” is already on the mend, looking much healthier than when he was wandering the hospital grounds.

“Malaki na improvement ni Morgan. Bukod sa nanaba na ng konti, ginagamot natin siya ngayon lalo’t mababa ang platelet count,” said Caguioa in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo.

“Generally, ang sarap niya kumain, magana kumain. From there, makikita natin na Morgan will stay on, na lalakas pa siya, at magiging masaya sa amin,” she added.

Caguioa noted that Morgan was thin, sad, and quiet when he was rescued, but that is no longer the case.

“Medyo payat siya, pero hindi naman unhealthy… Kita natin na tahimik at malungkot. After a few weeks time, kakawag kawag na yan, patakbo takbo na. May proseso kasi talaga tayo. Hindi pwedeng biglaan,” she explained.

As Morgan continues to regain his strength, he’ll soon be ready for adoption, with the hope of finding a new, loving family.

“Pag ready na si Morgan, healthy, socialized, at ready na na magkaroon ng bagong pamilya, pwede na natin siya i-offer for adoption,” said Caguioa.

Indeed, a loyal dog like Morgan deserves a fresh start and a forever home.
