The cosmos dreams of space enthusiasts, students, and tourists in Mindanao are about to come true without the hassle of traveling to Manila!

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical & Astronomical Services (PAGASA) just unveiled the brand-new planetarium in Mindanao, located in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.

“The facility serves as the first-ever planetarium in Mindanao, offering an unparalleled experience of the cosmos,” said DOST-PAGASA in a statement.

“The Mindanao Planetarium essentially symbolizes the region’s commitment to exploration and knowledge, promising to remain a source of inspiration and discovery for years to come,” it added.

Equipped with cutting-edge visualization and immersive multimedia technology, the planetarium offers mind-blowing journeys through the space, from distant galaxies to the stars of our own constellation.

Guests can get lost in awe-inspiring astronomical shows within its theater-type facility and dome auditorium, all while peering through telescopes during stargazing sessions.

This celestial hub is also a dynamic center for research, education, and outreach, aiming to cultivate a new generation of astronomers and space enthusiasts.

DOST-PAGASA also extended an invitation to all eager minds to explore the wonders of the universe with lectures and shows, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What’s more is that DOST Secretary Renato Solidum, Jr. has hinted at even bigger things on the horizon for Mindanao’s science education scene. “We hope that the establishment of the Mindanao Planetarium is just a kick-off of many more science-centered facilities [in the region],” he said.
