A Pinoy short film won big at Emirates Film Festival.

A short film by Mindanaoan filmmakers won big at this year’s Emirates Film Festival in Dubai. “Hello Daisy,” written and directed by Franky Arrocena and produced by Duwende Productions, earned the Best Emerging Filmmaker award, along with Best Actress for Mia Cabaobao and Best Screenplay for Arrocena.

The film, which addresses the issue of online child sexual abuse, was also nominated for Best Film, competing against 427 entries worldwide.

“As a fully Mindanawon and Dabawenyo team, we hope this achievement proves that indie filmmaking in Mindanao deserves international recognition and greater local support,” Arrocena said in his director’s note.
