Mactan-Cebu International Airport bags Platinum Green Airport award

MCIA received an international award for its sustainability practices.

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) bagged the Platinum Green Airport Recognition 2024 from the Airports Council International, making it the first Pinoy airport to receive this award.

The Green Airports Recognition, now in its eighth year, showcases airports that use “Biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions” to protect local and regional biodiversity.

MCIA, operated by Aboitiz GMCAC, excelled in the 8 to 15 million passengers per year category, surpassing Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd International Airport (Gold) and Japan’s Chubu Centrair International Airport (Silver).

MCIA was recognized for its commitment to “safe and sustainable airport operations while preserving the environment” using solar energy and green spaces.

In total, 12 airports from the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions were recognized at the ACI World Annual General Assembly, Conference, and Exhibition (WAGA 2024) last month.
