While couples were filling up restaurants, hotels, and cinemas on Valentine’s Day, persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Manila City Jail found a different yet equally meaningful way to celebrate love.
Through Project Liham na Inaasam sa Napapanahong Okasyon (LINO), male PDLs from the male dorm wrote love letters and prepared gifts for their loved ones in the female dorm.
“The PDLs from the Male Dorm poured their hearts into writing love letters for their loved ones in the Female Dorm. This allowed them to express their love and affection despite the barriers of incarceration,” shared the Manila City Jail in a Facebook post.
When the letters were finally delivered, emotions ran high, said Manila City Jail. “Many were deeply moved by the sincere words from their special someone, proving that love transcends walls and distance.”
According to the Manila City Jail, this special Valentine’s initiative was not just a celebration but also a reminder that love and connection remain strong, no matter the distance or situation.
“The celebration of Valentine’s Day took on a deeper meaning, that despite their separation, they were still able to express their affection and devotion,” it said.
