For many college students, earning that diploma is a monumental feat, and graduating with Latin honors is like the cherry on top, signifying academic excellence. It’s often expected that achieving such status would easily lead to a dream job, with companies eagerly vying for your talents.
But for 22-year-old marketing graduate Mylene Lara, the hard reality hit her that being a cum laude graduate doesn’t guarantee a job served on a silver platter.
What added to the pressure was the fact that some of her peers had already landed jobs, while Mylene, a native of Navotas City, was still in the relentless pursuit of employment.
“Ngayon ko lang na-realize na kahit cum laude, na kahit graduate ka pa ng 4-year course, kung wala kang determinasyon at prayer kay God, walang-wala rin lahat. Naiiyak ako kasi ang tagal ko nang naghahanap ng trabaho,” Mylene shared. The struggle was real, and the disappointment was palpable.
But Mylene didn’t let herself stay down. Instead of wallowing in self-pity or frustration, her determination to secure a job and kickstart her career remained unwavering. She kept sending out her resumes to different companies and attended job applications with unyielding resolve.
Her hard work and determination finally paid off when she attended a job fair organized by the Department of Labor and Employment-National Capital Region. She was one of the 237 hopefuls who were hired on the spot during the job fair held in September.
“Sobrang thankful po talaga ako kay God kasi ngayon po nakahanap na ako ng trabaho,” said Mylene.
And in less than two months since being hired, Mylene already leveled up to the position of a branch supervisor at a leading waxing salon chain, Lay Bare.
