In this remote village in Benguet, residents chipped in what little they had to build a new school building so that their children could finish their education.
It is expected that by next month, the 80 students of Kimpit Elementary School in Barangay Amlimay in the town of Buguias will have more space for learning following the completion of the brand-new structure.
In the past, Grades 1 to 6 students had to make do and manage their classes in a small one-story building, originally designed for just two classrooms.
But kind-hearted villagers stepped up and donated construction materials while the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) chipped in with additional purchases, using contributions totaling Php50,000 from parents of kindergarten and Grades 1 to 6 students, reported Baguio Midland Courier.
The community began constructing the new building during the Brigada Eskwela program, with parents, mostly women, volunteering their labor for free. But despite the enthusiasm, progress was stunted due to insufficient funds for construction materials.

A silver lining appeared when a Cordillera Golfers Foundation Inc. representative paid the school a personal visit in July and informed the PTA officers that the foundation would allocate Php300,000 to complete the extension building following the Benguet Schools Division Office’s endorsement.
The donation was part of the proceeds from their inaugural golf tournament held in Baguio City this May.
