In a world where pets are easily abandoned when they’re no longer needed, there are people like Ayie Azur who would go to such great lengths to keep all their pets no matter what life throws at them.
The Filipino worker in Qatar recently took to social media to look for travel buddies for his 10 feline companions so they can all come home to the Philippines with him.
He said he was still at a crossroads between going home for good and accepting a job offer from another company in Doha following a major change in his career goal, but he wanted to make sure that not one of his fur babies gets left behind in the process.
“Just the amount of money I have to pay is already too much for me to bear, but I would rather go home empty-handed and broke rather than go home without them,” said Ayie, adding that his furry companions have been making his life in a foreign land worthwhile for the past three years.
Most of his cats have been rescued from traumatic situations as kittens, and the thought of not being able to take care of them made him desperate.
Seeing them lying next to each other by his bedroom door, which they rarely do, on the day he made the decision to send them back home, broke his heart even more.
“So, I am seeking like-minded people who care so much for pets to help me bring home my cats by traveling with them from Doha to Manila as I cannot travel with all 10 cats,” he said.
The OFW said he plans to stay until the first week of October in Qatar and that pertinent travel documents for his pets should be ready by the first week of September.
“I am already preparing their room in the Philippines and I wish anyone with a good heart will bring them home where a better life awaits them,” he said.
His post has been shared 237 times, with fellow Filipinos helping him pass the word around by tagging their friends and acquaintances who can assist.
A heartfelt comment from a Pinoy nurse read, “Sora’s RescueTreasury dear pls can u help this furdad look for a flight buddy? I know you have lots of followers who might be potential help for them just like how you did to our babies who went home and found their kind flight buddy through your help.”
Another netizen extended a helping hand by pointing him toward a public group on Facebook created for Filipinos traveling with their pets from the Middle East to the Philippines. “There may be some people who can help you to have your fur babies sent to PH,” she said.
