What began as a simple project to give an old necklace a glow-up has blossomed into a full-blown bracelet business for 21-year-old April Atanacio from Paracale, Camarines Norte.
After years of pure hard work and creativity, his unique creations have become such a hit that he was able to bring his mom, an overseas Filipino worker, back home for good and buy a new house for the family.
Ironically, his mom, Elen Mapusao, wasn’t initially thrilled about her son’s business because she wanted him to prioritize his studies. Little did she know that April’s venture would not only bring fortune to the family but also offer a lifeline to those in need. April now employs workers from various parts of Bicol.
Inspiration for his business, now called FxDCord, struck April after embellishing an old necklace. He liked how it turned out so much that he bought more materials worth Php140 and started making bracelets.
April initially sold his creations outside the Paracale Church before the pandemic hit. With the guidance of the Department of Trade and Industry, he was able to expand his reach to other locations in the region.
“Masaya po…talagang tinatangkilik naman siya especially dito at pag lumilipat ako outside Camarines Norte,” said April in an interview with GMA Regional TV.
He added, “Talagang na-appreciate nila kasi sila mismo nag-aaya sakin na pumunta sa place nila.”
While business is booming, he plans to fulfill his mom’s wish for him to finish his studies. So, this year, he is set to return to school to complete senior high and eventually earn a college degree.
