Filipina fighter Islay Erika Bomogao just proved the fierceness of her warrior spirit as she became the World’s No. 1 Muay Thai fighter in the -45kg female elite category.
The 23-year-old, who hails from Benguet, made headlines after defeating Australia’s Sarah Kwa in a match held in Kenwick, Australia earlier this month. This victory secured her the No. 1 spot in the International Federation of Muay Thai Associations (IFMA) rankings.
Despite just graduating from college last year, Bomogao already has an impressive list of accomplishments. She won multiple SEA Games medals, gold at the 2017 Jincheon 1st World Youth Martial Arts Masterships, gold at the 2018 IFMA Youth World Championships, and became the first Filipino female Muay Thai world champion at the 2023 IFMA Senior World Championships.
In addition to her fight cred, Bomogao graduated cum laude from the University of Baguio with a Bachelor of Physical Education and was an Athletic Awardee.
She balances her sports career with being a licensed secondary teacher, a foodie with a popular Instagram account, and a dog mom to a chihuahua named Atom, according to Nylon.
