Hidilyn Diaz honors Mama Mary in Paris and inspires athletes to stay thankful—‘Never forget to give thanks to Him’

Hidilyn Diaz pays the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal while in Paris to offer a memorial marble to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a gesture of her gratitude for her historic win at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz proudly wore the Miraculous Medal along with the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold—a sign of her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

On August 6, Hidilyn finally fulfilled a promise she made for her answered prayers by visiting the Chapel of Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal in Rue du Bac, Paris, and offered a marble memorial as a gesture of gratitude for her historic win.

But her visit wasn’t just about fulfilling a personal vow, it also came with a powerful reminder to her fellow athletes: “Never forget to give thanks to Him.”

On social media, Hidilyn shared her solemn moments at the Chapel, where she was accompanied by her husband Julius Naranjo. In her post, she urged athletes to always remember the source of their success.

“I would always remind athletes na ang success natin ay galing sa Diyos, and we must never forget to give thanks to Him for all the blessings and graces na natatanggap natin,” she wrote.

The Filipino nuns of the Daughters of Charity, who manage the chapel, warmly welcomed the Olympic champion and her company. They were also given a special tour of the seminary and the Chapel by the seminarians of the Society of Foreign Missions of Paris.

Hidilyn flew to Paris in time for the Olympics as an elected member of the International Weightlifting Federation’s Athletes’ Commission and Executive Board.

Netizens were quick to praise Hidily for her gesture and unwavering faith:

“Love this offering, Hidilyn.”

“Our champion in sports and in faith! God bless you Maam Hidily and Sir Julius! To God be all the Glory and Honor through the intercession of Mama Mary.”

“Napakabuti mo! Hiahangaan kong tunay ang walang katumbas na pananalig mo sa Diyos. Keep the faith”

“This is beautiful”

“God bless you and thank you for sharing your faith.”
