Google Translate just got a major upgrade with more Philippine dialects—and we’re loving it!

Bikol, Hiligaynon, Kapampangan, Pangasinan, and Waray now included in Google Translate options

Struggling to understand Philippine dialects aside from your own? Worry no more because Google Translate just added more local languages from the country’s diverse ethnic groups.

A look at the Google Translate app reveals that there are now eight major Philippine dialects that are available for use.

The latest additions include Bikol, Hiligaynon (Ilonggo), Kapampangan, Pangasinan, and Waray. Previously, only Tagalog (Filipino), Cebuano, and Ilokano were available.

Linguist Christopher Sundita is thrilled about the upgrade and hopes for even more Philippine languages in the future. “Can we keep going?” he said in a tweet.

Other netizens also expressed excitement over the increased representation of Philippine ethnic groups on Google Translate.
