Indie film enthusiasts, it’s that time of year again for the Philippines’ most prestigious celebration of independent cinema. The Cinemalaya Film Festival just dropped its official schedule for movies in competition beginning Saturday, August 3.
This year’s Cinemalaya will be held at the Ayala Malls by the Bay cinemas and selected Ayala Mall cinemas, while the Cultural Center of the Philippines is still being renovated. Last year, the festival found a temporary home at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
Among the films in contention for the full feature category are “Balota” by Kip Oebanda, “Love Child” by Jonathan Jurilla, “The Errand” by Sarge Lacuesta, “Kono Basho” by Jaime Pacena II, “Kantil” (Trench) by Joshua Caesar Medroso, “Ang Tumandok” (The Inhabitants) by Kat Sumagaysay and Richard Salvadico, “The Wedding Dance” by Julius Lumiqued, “Alipato” by JL Burgos, “The Hearing” by Lawrence Fajardo, and “Gulay Lang Manong” by BC Amparado.
