How does it feel to collaborate with your role model? This is the best question to ask Filipino rapper Ez Mil who did a cover of Eminem’s Lose Yourself in Dubai last year and ended up being signed by the “rap god” himself.
Fast forward to today when he dropped his collab with Marshall Mathers himself with “Realest.” Posted on his YouTube channel, the video has been streamed 1.7 million times in less than a week, with comments that are mostly supportive of the young Pinoy rapper.
It can be recalled that Ez Mil landed a record deal with Eminem’s Shady Records and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Record, making him the first Pinoy rapper to land a major record deal with the two rap legends.
“Sir Dre greeted me with a handshake and a ‘Hello, Superstar,’ and Marshall was in the back of the studio, and he just shouted, ‘Ezekiel! Where have you been for the past 20 years? Oh right, you were 4,’ and we just laughed it up. The rest is history,” he said in an interview with Mega.
Ez Mil first rose to fame for almost being declared a persona non grata by Lapu Lapu City government for taking creative freedom with the lyrics of his hit song “Panalo (Trap Cariñosa),” which to public officials was a distortion of history. The rapper humbly apologized for his error and continued creating music with his sick rhymes and beats.
