From Pipes to Pawis: Baguio’s sewer heroes get lit with DIY street Zumba for the city’s 90-day glow-up challenge–Watch

These sewer workers turn into Zumba stars in the name of an anti-obesity campaign.

In Baguio City, it’s not just the pine trees, strawberry taho, or pink-haired horses that will catch your eye. There’s a new addition to the list of things you’ll spot around town: folks who keep residents toilet flush in check getting their daily dose of DIY Zumba madness on the streets!

Well, at least for the next few months as part of a 90-day fitness frenzy mandated by the city government.

These city workers from the Wastewater and Hazardous Waste Monitoring Division (WAHMD), who typically spend their days knee-deep in the muckiest of messes to keep the city’s pipes flowing smoothly, are now swapping sewage for some Zumba moves.

Why the sudden burst of dance energy? It turns out Baguio’s Mayor Benjamin Magalong, known for his innovative ideas, decided to shake things up.

He introduced the ultimate challenge—a 90-day weight loss challenge to help city employees achieve healthier body indexes and combat obesity.

“City employees were required to observe the time allotted for mandatory physical fitness program as part of the anti-obesity campaign of the city government,” explained the Baguio City Public Information Office.

Even these sewer superheroes aren’t exempt from this fitness fever. But they’re all in on the health game and ready to show their moves. So get ready for some streetside Zumba as the WAHMD squad grooves to the beat in their overalls, boots, and all.
