Fourth time’s the charm: Fil-Am gymnast Emma Malabuyo off to Paris to represent PH

Emma Lauren Malabuyo is the fourth gymnast representing the Philippines in the Paris Olympics in July.

For this Filipino-American gymnast, the fourth time’s the charm.

Emma Lauren Malabuyo has punched her golden ticket to the much-anticipated Paris Olympics after snagging the bronze medal for Individual All-Around in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships held last week in Uzbekistan.

This makes her the Philippines’ fourth gymnast to represent the country in the Games.

The 21-year-old full-blooded Pinoy, born in the United States, admitted to being “terrified” to go after her Olympic dream one last time after joining four world cups.

“But I was even more terrified of not trying at all. From four world cups: Cairo to Cottbus to Los Angeles to Baku to Doha, and finally in Tashkent at Asian Championships, I did it! What a dream come true!” Emma wrote in an Instagram post.

“I have never fought for something so hard in my life. Went out there with passion, fight, resilience, and grit. I am so thankful to my family, who never stopped believing in me,” she added.

Emma is set to go back to Los Angeles for the last two weeks of school and to fully prepare for the Games in July.

“To my Bruin family, to all my coaches, to the Filipino community, this is for you, and I am so honored to represent the Philippines,” said Emma, who’s a junior Communications student at the University of California, Los Angeles.
