Imagine waiting in line for hours at a restaurant—would you do it?
Well, this digital creator, Gabby, certainly did! She patiently stood in line for two hours just to savor the flavors of the world’s first Filipino Michelin-starred restaurant, Kasama, right in the heart of Chicago.
Gabby couldn’t contain her excitement and shared her food adventure on Instagram as she indulged in a delicious breakfast at Kasama.
Kasama, a unique establishment in the East Ukranian Village neighborhood of Chicago, is a bakery and modern Filipino restaurant by chefs Genie Kwon and Timothy Flores, a husband-and-wife team.
“Kasama means ‘together’ in Tagalog. So it’s both of our concepts in one restaurant,” Flores told Good Morning America, highlighting the essence of unity in their culinary journey to bring Pinoy flavors to the forefront.
Kasama celebrated its third anniversary on July 23, marking another milestone in its journey to bring Filipino cuisine to the world stage.
“We want to do a casual Filipino concept with Genie’s specialty, which is French-American pastries,” Flores added as they made a conscious effort to celebrate and further elevate Pinoy tastes to new heights.
He noted, “There are so many Filipinos here, yet so little restaurants that are available,” Flores said.
As for Gabby, she relished every bite of her meal at Kasama, which included adobo mushroom, the delectable Kasama breakfast sandwich (featuring egg, longganisa, and hashbrown), cardamom kouign amann, and a huckleberry basque cake with powdered sugar in the shape of the Filipino flag.
“One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had,” exclaimed Gabby, extending her thanks to Kasama for the wonderful experience and promising, “I’ll be back.”
