‘Firefly’ lights up Beijing International Film Fest 2024

The Pinoy film "Firefly" is among the movies being screened at the Beijing International Film Festival 2024.

The magic of the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is reaching new heights as “Firefly,” the winner of the Best Picture award, lightens up the screen at the Beijing International Film Festival 2024.

“HAPPENING NOW: ‘Firefly’ screening at the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) 2024,” announced GMA Network, the producer of the acclaimed film.

Known as one of China’s premier film festivals together with the Shanghai International Film Festival, the BJIFF shines a spotlight on global cinematic excellence and diverse narratives, as emphasized by GMA Network.

The annual film festival, running from April 18 to 26, boasts a lineup of over 240 Chinese and international films from 18 different nations, showcasing the best in contemporary cinema.

“Firefly” tells the story of 10-year-old Tonton, played by Euwenn Mikaell, who goes on a search for the mythical “Island of Fireflies,” a place inspired by bedtime stories from his mother, Elay, played by Alessandra De Rossi.

The movie has swept multiple awards at the 2023 MMFF, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay (Angeli Atienza), and Best Child Performer (Euwenn).

The 2023 MMFF films were also previously showcased in the 2024 Manila International Film Festival held in Hollywood. Also currently making waves in streaming giant, Netflix, are the 2023 MMFF films “GomBurZa,” “Rewind,” “Becky and Badette,” and “Kampon.”
