Fil-Am NBA coach Erik Spoelstra poised to lead Team USA in 2028 Olympics

The Fil-Am NBA coach served as assistant coach under Steve Kerr before taking over.

Fil-Am pride is taking over the court once again as NBA coach Erik Spoelstra is reportedly stepping up as the new head coach of Team USA for the 2027 FIBA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to ESPN.

The Miami Heat coach is no stranger to gold as he was the lead assistant for the 2024 Olympic team that clinched victory in Paris. This move continues Team USA’s coaching tradition of promoting assistants to the top spot.

Spoelstra will take over from Steve Kerr, who followed the same path after Gregg Popovich and Mike Krzyzewski.

With two NBA titles, six Finals appearances, and the record as the NBA’s longest-serving active head coach, Spoelstra’s next chapter is making every Pinoy basketball fan extra proud.
