Columnist Bum Tenorio Jr. is feeling extra grateful after undergoing a successful quadruple heart bypass surgery on September 27 at St. Luke’s Global City.
In a Facebook post, the veteran journalist shared a touching “proof of life” video showing him dancing just four days after the operation.
“Four days after my quadruple heart bypass operation, I was able to dance in my hospital room,” he said, calling it a “news lease on life.”
Tenorio admitted that he was initially in denial about needing surgery because of his active lifestyle.
“The biker in me was of course in denial at first why I had to undergo a major operation. I could bike for hours without getting shortness of breath; even go up to my classroom on the third floor without panting,” he shared.
But results from an angiogram told a different story, revealing severe blockages in his arteries.
“I was found to be asymptomatic: strong looking but beneath me, as revealed by the angiogram result, my major heart arteries were blocked. I was a walking time bomb,” he revealed, adding that without the surgery, he could have died anytime.
Tenorio went on to thank his medical team, from his cardiologist to the surgeons he called “the best team at St. Luke’s Global.”
He said he felt God’s love throughout the process, describing the experience as one of the most profound moments in his 53 years. When he woke up after the operation, his first words were, “There is a God,” he shared.
