The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) saw the incredible journey of Robert “Big J” Jaworski, who graced the court for an astonishing 23 seasons from 1975 to 1998.
His era was iconic, and he clinched a unique record—becoming the oldest PBA player, bowing out of the league at the age of 50. Big J’s legacy was etched in basketball history.
Now, Colombia’s professional basketball league is penning its own remarkable story, introducing their very own “Big J” with a unique backstory.
Introducing 63-year old Octavio Carillo, who might just be the oldest player in the history of professional basketball leagues worldwide. Carillo isn’t just part of the Cóndores de Cundinamarca in the WPlay Professional Basketball League in Colombia. He’s also living proof of the game’s timeless spirit.
When it came to game day, Carillo’s debut happened during a showdown against Titanes de Barranquilla. The Titans laid down the law, sealing a comfortable 106-80 victory over the Cóndores, reported, Euro ES Euro.
With less than two minutes left, Carillo, who is also a criminal circuit judge in Bogota, took three daring shots at the hoop, but the basketball gods weren’t in a giving mood.
Long story short, Carillo and his crew couldn’t notch the W, and he didn’t light up the scoreboard. But what they lost in points, they gained in inspiring hearts and minds across the internet.
