Filipino actress and vlogger Kristel Fulgar may have been dropped at the last minute from her most anticipated hosting gig at her idol Seo In-guk’s fan meet in Manila last weekend, but she still emerged as the happiest and luckiest stan from the event.

Backstage, just before Seo In-guk went onstage to meet his legions of Pinoy supporters for the first time, Kristel found herself in the rare company of the K-drama heartthrob.

In those precious moments, they chatted in fluent Korean, exchanging banter like longtime friends. They even sang a duet and took lots of selfies worthy of the ‘Gram—capturing a candid connection only a true fan can pull off.

A few hours before the show on Aug. 12, the actress took to Instagram to let fans know that she has been suddenly let go from the event’s lineup and another host was replacing her, a revelation that sent ripples through her fans.

Three days later, on Aug. 15, she released a YouTube video explaining the circumstances behind her ill-fated gig.

“They keep telling me they just want a good event. They didn’t even give me a second chance to prove myself. And I’m ashamed to the people that already expected to see me up there. I’m so sorry guys,” said the tearful actress.

But later she cheered herself up meeting her idol of 11 years up close and personal. The “Café Minamdang” star even comforted her for what seemed like a missed opportunity for the actress and posed with her for selfies he had promised during an online interview last year for the release of his new album “LOVE&LOVE” and new K-drama on Netflix.

In that heartwarming online interview, Kristel confessed to the actor that she had learned Korean so she could understand him in his concerts, and that she’s one of his “Angels” (the name of the actor’s devoted fandom) waiting for him to visit the Philippines.

“If that happens, I hope I can get even just one selfie with you,” she had said, to which the actor replied, “we can even take a hundred.”

So, on that fateful Saturday when she was supposed to share the stage with him, the actor fulfilled his promise.

Truly, some of the most unforgettable experiences happen away from the spotlight.
